What Kind of Oak is Used in the Wishbone Chair

Last month we got the following question on the “Ask About the Wishbone” page:

What type of oak (English, American Red etc.) is used in the Wishbone chair?

It’s a great question, and one that we’re happy to answer.

Carl Hansen & Son purchases all its wood from responsible sawmills, almost all of which are in Denmark. Carl Hansen uses only new wood−never recycled−and have long-standing relationships with all of its suppliers.

As for the oak used for the Wishbone Chair, Carl Hansen supplies almost all of its oak from Danish forests, which are managed according to the Danish Forest Act (latest edition 2004). This law promotes sustainable forestry incorporating ecological, social and economic considerations. The law also stipulates that indigenous wood supplies must not only be sustainable, but, by law, also increase in a managed way. A small portion of our hardwoods is sourced from other European countries, from suppliers who adhere to Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) guidelines.

We hope that answers your question! For more information, visit Carl Hansen & Son.
